Expectation vs. Reality
People often build up others and situations in their minds because imagination is safer than reality. In our heads, we can shape things exactly how we want them to be—perfect, exciting, fulfilling. It’s hope mixed with idealism, a desire for something meaningful or extraordinary.
But reality has edges. People are flawed. Situations are complex. Life rarely unfolds the way we storyboard it in our minds.
The disappointment comes from the gap between what we wanted something to be and what it actually is. That gap is where unrealistic expectations live—and where resentment often grows.
The antidote? Stay open, but grounded. Dream, but also observe. Let reality reveal itself before assigning it a role in your story.
Because sometimes, what is might not match what you hoped for—but it might be exactly what you need to grow.
